Crown reduction and thinning
There are a few reasons to carry out these practises. Thinning is usually carried out to create a leaner canopy. This benefits the health of the tree by taking out crossing branches, letting more light in and through the canopy. This also improves the aesthetics of a crowded or busy, dense canopy. Crown reductions can be as little as 5% and as much as 50%. An overall weight reduction not only reduces the size of the tree but also relieves stress, helping to discourage the tree from pulling itself apart or drop any over weighted limbs.
